R.E.M.

Formed in Athens in 1980 when Peter Buck met Michael Stipe at Wuxtry Records. R.E.M. became one of the most influential alternative rock bands in the world, with hits like "Losing My Religion" and "Man on the Moon." The band helped establish Athens as a major music center before disbanding in 2011.
